Zenos Frudakis’ sculpture "Liberté" (known in English as "Freedom") is a monumental bronze artwork that powerfully captures the universal human aspiration for liberation and self-expression. Installed in 2000 outside the GlaxoSmithKline offices in Philadelphia, the sculpture is both a physical and symbolic representation of the struggle to break free from constraints—whether they be physical, political, social, psychological, or spiritual. The piece is composed of a large bronze slab from which four human figures emerge, each at a different stage of escaping the confines of the wall. The rightmost figure has fully broken free, standing with outstretched arms as if embracing the open space and possibilities beyond. This progression from entrapment to freedom is not only a visual narrative but also an invitation to viewers, as Frudakis inscribed "stand here" in the empty cavity left by the liberated figure, encouraging people to physically and metaphorically place themselves within the story of emancipation.

The sculpture is impressive in scale, measuring twenty feet in length and eight feet in height, and weighing 7,000 pounds. Frudakis drew inspiration from Rodin’s "Gates of Hell" but sought to create a work that would resonate universally, regardless of background. He incorporated the faces and forms of twenty-five people, including his own likeness and even a cat, into the intricate bronze relief, adding layers of personal and collective meaning. The artwork is celebrated for its ability to evoke immediate recognition of the human desire to overcome limitations and to inspire reflection on one’s own journey toward freedom. It has been widely acclaimed as one of the most compelling public artworks, featured in international media and recognized for its emotional and interactive impact. By blending technical mastery with profound thematic depth, "Liberté" stands as a timeless symbol of the enduring quest for personal and collective liberation
