Once upon a time, in the heart of the endless ocean, there was a little wave named Lina. She was but a ripple on the water’s surface, a shy undulation among thousands of others, rocked by the wind’s breath and the murmur of the depths. The great waves, majestic and powerful, passed her by without even noticing, carried away in their race toward distant shores. But Lina dreamed in secret. She dreamed of growing, of dancing with the moon, of caressing the rocks, and of whispering stories to the shells washed up on the sand.
One evening, as the sky blazed with purple and gold, an old sea turtle approached her. Her eyes, worn by centuries, shone with a wisdom only the ocean knows.
— « Why do you want to become big, little Lina? » she asked in a slow voice, like a receding tide.
— « To be seen, to be heard, to exist beyond this fleeting shiver, » Lina replied, her crests trembling with emotion.
The turtle smiled—or at least, Lina thought she saw a smile in the blink of her wrinkled eyelids.
— « Greatness is not measured by height, but by the mark you leave. A wave, no matter how small, can change the world. You just have to wait for your moment. »
Days passed. Lina practiced, day after day, gathering her strength. She learned to listen to the song of the currents, to feel the sun’s warmth on her back, to understand the patience of the tides. She watched storms from afar, fascinated by their fury, but also by how they sculpted the coasts, redrew the beaches, and sowed life in their wake.
Then came the night everything changed. A storm rose on the horizon, monstrous and beautiful, tearing the silence with its lightning. The waves around her stirred in panic, but Lina let herself be carried. She remembered the turtle’s words. She was not afraid. She waited. And when the wind lifted her, when the moon lit her path, Lina rose. She grew taller, stronger, bolder than ever. She was no longer just a wave: she had become a breaker, a wild and free force, carrying with her dreams of foam and salt.
When she finally reached the shore, it was not to break and disappear. No. She deposited seeds carried from afar, iridescent shells, and a message written in the sand: « Even the smallest things can become immense. »
In the morning, the children playing on the beach found these treasures and marveled. No one ever knew it was Lina, the former little wave, who had given them. But the ocean remembered. And every time a timid wave dared to dream, it whispered in its ear: « Wait for your moment. »
